On Thursday afternoon, police officers were deployed to Bettinastraße in Offenbach to assist
the city’s youth welfare office in taking two children into protective custody . The action was taken due to suspected acute endangerment of the children’s welfare. Based on available police information, the police supported the youth welfare office with several officers to carry out the operation.
After the children were taken into protective custody, the children ‘s father allegedly launched a sudden physical attack around 3 p.m. in front of the apartment building on Bettinastraße
. The 58-year-old man physically assaulted the officers
, grabbed their equipment, and offered considerable resistance
. He was eventually taken into custody, including after the use of
pepper spray.
During the operation, five police officers sustained minor injuries,
some caused by the pepper spray used. One officer had to
be taken to hospital for further treatment and was
unable to continue his shift due to an arm injury.
The 58-year-old, who is also alleged to have bitten an officer’s finger
, is now under investigation for, among other things, suspected assault on
law enforcement officers. His wife is also being
investigated for suspected attempted prison break, as she apparently
intended to prevent his temporary arrest.
After receiving medical treatment, the suspect was taken to the police station on
Spessartring, where he was processed for identification purposes. The
investigation is ongoing.
The police are asking any other witnesses who have made observations
to contact the police station at Spessartring on the telephone number 069 8098-5100.
